It only seems fitting that insult has been added to an already painful season of Raiders football. Last week Sebastian Janikowski received the fan’s nod for the AFC Pro Bowl roster. This week Jano got an official snub from the league as the players and coaches put Cleveland Browns kicker Phil Dawson on a plane to Hawaii after the season has ended.

Janikowski has been snubbed once again received a Pro Bowl snub. The fans wanted to see the greatest kicking show on Earth but their voice only counts for a third of the vote.

Never mind that Seabass is on the verge of completing yet another historic season. On the year Janikowski has just three misses in 34 attempts with not one of those miscues coming from within 49 yards.

That pretty much means the Raiders are almost guaranteed three points every time they cross midfield. In fact Janikowski has also been Oakland’s entire offense for two weeks running now. Not exactly something to brag about but it proves how consistent and clutch he’s been all year long.

Making matters worse is that no Raiders were named to the AFC squad. Both Janikowski and Marcel Reece are listed as alternates so there is a chance someone will rep the Silver and Black in Hawaii.

Nate Kaeding, the “mentally weak” All-Pro place kicker for the San Diego Chargers, has pulled out of the Pro Bowl due to a groin injury. His roster spot will be filled by Dan Carpenter of the Miami Dolphins.

Once again, Sebastian Janikowski has been over looked.

From a distance, Carpenter’s numbers look good but when compared to Janikowski’s, there is a striking difference in class.

Carpenter, like Seabass, only missed three field goals all year long. However, upon closer examination, you’ll notice that Carpenter’s longest make of the year was 52 yards – a mere chip shot for Janikowski.

Carpenter attempted just two kicks from 50-yards or longer while Janikowski converted an unreal six of eight attempts from the same distance, including his 61-yard bomb in the freezing cold of Cleveland in December.

The only area where Carpenter has the edge on Jano is in extra points. Janikowski was a perfect 17 of 17, while Carpenter converted 37 of his 38 PATs. Last time I checked, the kickers have nothing to do with how often their respective teams find the end zone.

While the Pro Bowl continues to spiral downward into the most over hyped scrimmage in football, it is still an honor for those selected and equates to a nice cash bonus plus a trip to Miami for the chosen. All in all, it is a reward for a season of hard work.

Considering that Carpenter is just a sophomore in the NFL and Jano is 10 years deep into his pro career, it becomes even more insulting.

Of course, Janikowski is a free agent and will surely collect a lot more dead presidents in the coming years than Carpenter. I’m guessing that a record contract for a place kicker will be a pretty nice reward for the amazing season Sebastian put together. But an all expense paid trip to South Beach would have been pretty sweet too.
