Just underway today is McClain’s trial in Alabama stemming from an arrest on an assault charge last year. If you’re reading this blog then you’re familiar with the case as it caused a stir when Hue Jackson opted not to take any action against his young defender.

Well, Jackson is gone and the court of Hue will always be overruled by an actual court.

Yesterday an out-of-nowhere video surfaced in which the incident in question was recorded on multiple cell phones. Today the fallout is already underway.

According to WHNT’s coverage of the trial, McClain’s co-defendant has changed his plea to guilty and will testify against McClain.

That’s not good and neither is the fact that McClain’s acquaintances are quickly jumping ship. How the video emerged in the first place was a bad sign. Now that McClain’s Co-D is making an about face it stands to reason there is something amiss with the whole situation.

It should be noted that none of the released videos show McClain partaking in any of the activities he’s accused of but for all we know an edited version of those videos was all that was “leaked” to the press. If there is something more damning entered as evidence then that will spell certain doom for McClain. Keep in mind no matter what the court rules McClain will have to answer to a much high power – Lord Goodell.

What you won’t see on the video is any proof of the allegations that McClain fired a handgun within earshot of the victim or that he laid hands on anyone.

However what you’ve got to be asking right about now is why is there video of this in the first place and just who leaked it? What’s more is that we’re not talking about a single video here. What was submitted to the Daily is a “composite of videos taken on witnesses’ cellphones”.

As it stands McClain isn’t with the Raiders during their initial OTAs as he’s slated to stand trial tomorrow. Even though none of the allegations against McClain are corroborated by the video(s) there has got to be some serious concern.

Obviously someone in the McClain circle isn’t keeping this entire incident under wraps which could mean conflicting testimony might be entered when the trial gets underway. Also, it would appear some of the video has been edited. If that’s the case then who knows what else has been captured and will be entered as evidence.

Hue Jackson was more than willing to give McClain a pass for his poor judgment allowing the then second year linebacker to play without penalty. Even the football warden himself, Roger Goodell, turned a blind eye to the incident when he’s made suspensions in the past without waiting for a court ruling (see Ben Roethlisberger). However depending on how things shape up Reggie McKenzie might not be as forgiving.

But we’ll have to let this process play out first.

Could be that the leaked video might be a ploy to try and taint the jury. Then again, this could be the best example yet of why it’s time for McClain to make a few changes in his life. I’m not one to say you should turn your back on friends and relatives just because your life is headed in a new direction but at some point you have to know who is down for your cause and who is looking for a meal ticket. McClain needs to know better because the next time something like this happens could be the last time we refer to him as a pro football player.
