When you or I have a bad day on the job chances are the only people who know about it are our coworkers. However when you’re Roscoe Parrish and your job is broadcast on television throughout the West Coast then a large chunk of the football population knows how horrible a day you had.

Parrish was pretty much handed a roster spot by Reggie McKenzie mere hours after he was released by the rival Chargers cut him loose earlier this week. Badly in need of a help in the return game Oakland offered Parrish a gig that was academic so long as he didn’t completely wet the bed in the preseason finale.

Well, if you saw Parrish twice fumble away that job on Thursday night then it is no surprise at all that the Raiders terminated his contract. That would be the second time in only four days that Parrish has been fired. Talk about a bad week.

Not only did Parrish cough up the rock on his only two punt returns as a Raider but he also committed one of the great sins in all of the game. Parrish stepped onto the field for his second punt return without his helmet on having troubles with the chin strap. For that there is no excuse. At the lowest levels of football every player is instructed to be ready at all times to take the field. Parrish failed miserably in that respect and thus he’s back in the NFL breadline.

Between Jacoby Ford’s foot and Denarius Moore’s ailing hamstring the Raiders return game has been wretched in the preseason with no hopes of improving once the curtain goes up on the regular season. That’s why Reggie McKenzie has once again dipped into his emergency funds to ink return specialist Roscoe Parrish mere hours after he was released by the San Diego Chargers yesterday.

The move was made last night but was not confirmed by the franchise until today.

Parrish arrives in the East Bay with one duty and that’s to get the offense better field position every time he touches the rock. Of course he’ll have to survive the final cut come Friday to do so but Parrish is eligible to participate in preseason finale on Thursday meaning his dress rehearsal will be an open audition as well.

Should Parrish earn a spot on the 53-man it will be a strong indication that neither Moore nor Ford will be go to go for the Monday Night opener as their injury issues look likely to linger.

Of course Parrish could also figure into the passing game if the walking wounded of the receiving corps continues to pile up. Undrafted rookie standout Rod Streater is already in line for a starting gig so it’s not too far fetched to assume Parrish might also be in the mix once he digests the playbook.
