Is He Ready?

The Raiders felt very fortunate that Carr fell to them early in the second round after taking the best football player in the draft (Khalil Mack) in the first round. There was talk of that they were looking to trade down for him later in the first round as they liked him from the beginning. Rumor had it that owner Mark Davis wanted to take him regardless of where they picked so you know the Raiders have big plans for him.

But is he ready this soon?

The Raiders need to choose this one carefully because there’s no going back once Carr is named the starting quarterback of the team. His confidence could leave him with each time he’ pulled out of a game and it can get to the point that the confidence never comes back. That’s exactly what happened to his brother David Carr as well as others so this is what the Raiders fear the most about throwing Carr (Derek) to the wolves.

It’s one thing to have a big arm with accuracy that enables him to make any throw on the football field he would ever need to make. It’s another thing to have sneaky athleticism and elusiveness to scramble or run away from defenders for a first down when necessary. But Carr has to put all these talents together and in a split second of each play around 65 to 70 times a game, make the right decision because bad decisions cause turnovers.
