The Raiders were set to fill their need tight end with Jermaine Gresham until a physical revealed his back needed surgery. That was a few months ago and the plan was to revisit the whole thing once they could determine he’s healthy. But then in the third round, they stole a tight end by the name of Clive Walford from the iconic Miami Hurricanes program.
Somehow, Maxx Williams was deemed as the best tight end in the 2015 NFL Draft but Walford really is. Walford has better numbers, hands, speed, route running ability and he’s a better blocker. He actually had better numbers at the University of Miami than any tight end in school history, a school that had Kellen Winslow Jr., Jeremy Shockey, Greg Olsen, and Jimmy Graham.
The Raiders forgot all about Gresham because Walford was impressive in offseason workouts. He hasn’t participated in training camp yet but when he’s ready, he will be a big-time tight end that can challenge defenses down the field. Making for yet another downfield weapon that Derek Carr will be able to use in 2015.
