Jemal Singleton

The last coach we’re going to talk about today is incoming running backs coach Jemal Singleton. He used to play at the Air Force Academy, a Mountain West program known for its triple-option attack. Most recently, he had been future Pro Football Hall of Famer Frank Gore‘s running backs coach in Indianapolis.

Along with Tom Cable taking over the offensive line, Singleton’s arrival in Oakland might signify that veteran running back Marshawn Lynch will be returning. Lynch and Cable worked well together with the Seattle Seahawks.

Gore is ageless in Indianapolis, as he continues to rack up yards into his mid-30s. Lynch could be doing the same thing before he retires after the Raiders’ last game in Oakland.

Though the Colts struggled to produce 100-yard rushers, it’s not really Singleton or Gore’s fault. That offensive line was horribly constructed by former Colts general manager Ryan Grigson.

Though he paid a small fortune for it in free agency, you can safely say that Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie put his best foot forward in building this Raiders’ front-five.

Gruden may want to go West Coast in the passing game, but it feels like the Raiders running game will be more power than zone with Cable and Singleton on the coaching staff. If we can get the ground game working in unison, the Raiders could get back to have a top-tier offense in football in no time. A reliable ground game only takes more pressure off Carr’s shoulders.
