The Oakland Raiders will play host to the Detroit Lions inside the Oakland Coliseum on Friday night in the preseason opener for both franchises.
Coming off a six-win season in 2017, the Oakland Raiders will look to get some good vibes going in their first preseason game of the year. The Raiders will play host to Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions, who come into the 2018 season after barely missing out on the playoffs in 2017.
Oakland and Detroit got together this week to have some joint practices, and the tensions ramped up between the two franchises. Oakland has a new swagger about themselves with Jon Gruden returning as head coach, and Friday night will be a good test against one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Stafford.
One noticeable absence this summer has been Khalil Mack, who is holding out until he gets a new deal. In his place, Bruce Irvin has become the leader of the Raiders defensive line, as he is making the move to defensive end on a permanent basis in new defensive coordinator Paul Guenther's 4-3 look.
Here is how to catch all of the action on Friday night.
The game will be broadcast live on the NFL Network, and will be the final game of the Friday Week 1 preseason slate. The New York Jets will take on the Atlanta Falcons in the game preceding the Raiders game, so it should be a great night for football to kick off the weekend.
The starters are going to be out of the game no later than the end of the first quarter, and then the real fun begins, as the guys on the bubble will be looking to make a statement. We are going to be all over the fallout in the coming days, but for now, sit back and enjoy some Raiders football for the first time in 222 days.
