3 running backs the Las Vegas Raiders should target in the third round
Cam Akers, Florida State
What Cam Akers was able to do amidst the atrocious offense that Florida State trotted out there every week was nothing short of a miracle. The 5-11 212 lb. junior was able to churn out 1,144 yards on 231 carries, averaging 5.0 Y/A and scoring 14 touchdowns behind one of the worst off offensive lines in the country.
Akers is an interesting situation because he has all the physical ability in the world to do whatever you ask him to, but was limited at his time in Florida state because of a bad offensive line and bad scheme. He has tremendous upside and his ceiling is quite high to be good in all facets of his game, it just may take some time to develop him.
He has all the tools to be an effective receiving back out of the back field and already uses his power and physicality to punish defenders between the tackles.
All in all Cam Akers would be a great happy medium between the two Raiders current running backs, Josh Jacobs and Jalen Richard. Don’t be surprised if Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock look at his film and see a guy who, despite a terrible situation, showed a lot of heart grinding and fighting for what he got. That coupled with his upside, you could see the Florida State product add great value to that running back room.
