Lamarcus Joyner, Slot Corner

In 2019, the Raiders signed Lamarcus Joyner to a four-year/$42 million deal with $21.3 million guaranteed. As exciting a signing it was at he time, Joyner was picked on heavily as the slot corner in his first season with the Raiders, as he allowed a 109.8 passer rating when targeted.

While Joyner has had the most success in the NFL playing safety, defensive coordinator Paul Guenther has maintained that Joyner will continue to play slot corner. Joyner was brought in to the organization because of his ability, leadership and talent, mostly stemming from his 2018 campaign in Los Angeles in which he played extremely well.

Going into 2020, Joyner has more added motivation with rookie Amik Robertson looking to challenge Joyner for his job. Robertson, whose physical attributes mirror Joyner statistically, is a physical and vocal ball-hawk with a chip on his shoulder looking to make a name for himself.

With Robertson on his heels, I would hope that Joyner uses this as an opportunity to rise to the occasion and grow from the competition.
