Las Vegas Raiders 2020 fantasy outlook: Quarterbacks
By Brad Weiss
The Las Vegas Raiders will head into the 2020 season with Derek Carr at quarterback once more, and here is his fantasy outlook.
For the seventh season in a row, the Las Vegas Raiders will roll into the season with Derek Carr as their starting quarterback. Carr is not widely considered an elite fantasy option, as he only has 40 touchdown passes across the last two season, but the 2020 campaign has the potential to be a completely different story.
In 2015 and 2016, Carr threw for 60 touchdowns across those two seasons, and the hope is that he can be closer to the 30-touchdown mark in 2020. Entering his third season in Jon Gruden’s offense, the expectation is that Carr will continue to put up solid statistics, as he finished second to only Drew Brees in terms of completion percentage last season.
Fantasy Outlook
While Carr has been able to put up numbers in terms of passing yards, throwing for over 4,000 yards in each of the last two seasons, his lack of touchdown passes hurts his fantasy value. In 2019, despite throwing for a career-high 4,054 yards, he had only 21 touchdown passes, mostly due to the inconsistency the Raiders had at wideout.
In 2020, Carr has some explosive weapons on the outside, including first round pick Henry Ruggs III, the fastest wideout in the draft class. He will team with Tyrell Williams, Hunter Renfrow, and 2020 third rounder Bryan Edwards to give the team playmakers in the passing game, and the Raiders also have guys like Zay Jones and Nelson Agholor on the roster heading into camp.
In addition, Josh Jacobs is going to be more involved in the passing game with his shoulder healed, and Darren Waller is one of the better pass-catching tight ends in the game. The addition of Jason Witten also helps the passing game, as he is still solid in the red zone, so there are a plethora of choices for Carr every time he drops back.
In two-quarterback leagues, Carr can become a guy that can help you win weeks, as he certainly has the weapons around him to succeed in 2020. If he can be more aggressive this season, taking shots downfield to utilize guys like Ruggs and Williams as deep threats, he could once again set a career-high in passing yards.
