Best linebackers in Las Vegas Raiders history: 8. Greg Biekert

Back in the 1993 NFL Draft, the then Los Angeles Raiders selected a talented linebacker out of Colorado. Despite leading the Buffaloes in tackles, Greg Biekert slid all the way to the seventh-round.

The Raiders obliged, taking a swing on him in the later rounds. It was a worthy gamble, as Biekert soon became a mainstay in the heart of the Raiders defense.

In his rookie year, Biekert rarely saw the field, fighting for a rotational role. However, by his second full season in the league, Biekert had taken over the starting middle linebacker role for the Raiders. He would maintain that spot until he left the organization after the 2001 season when he joined the Minnesota Vikings.

In Biekert’s nine seasons with the club, he appeared in 144 regular season games and six playoff games. That total is second to only one linebacker in the franchise’s history, Rod Martin, who we will discuss later on. Biekert tallied an absurd 702 solo tackles during his time with the Silver and Black.

He also amassed 15 quarterback sacks and 24 tackles for loss as well in Raiders uniform. Biekert was a stud in every definition of the word. He led the team in tackles in six different seasons and actually became the team’s linebackers coach in 2010, but that didn’t last long.

It should be noted that Biekert was the one who recovered the Tom Brady fumble that was incorrectly called back in the infamous “Tuck Rule” game. A true Raider legend, Biekert is one of the more recent faces on this list.
