Las Vegas Raiders 2021 NFL Draft: Day 2

It did not take long for the Raiders to make their move on Day 2, as they traded up five spots from No. 48 to take TCU safety Trevon Moehrig at No. 43 overall. This was a guy that many in Raider Nation wanted the Silver and Black to get, and honestly, if they took him at No. 17 overall I would not have been mad.

Moehrig is a guy who fills a major void for the Raiders, and they now have a solid group at the safety spot for the first time in years. He is a pure free safety, and joining the likes of Johnathan Abram and Karl Joseph, the Silver and Black have a nice young group at the safety spot.

Las Vegas held two more picks on Day 2, selecting back-to-back at No. 79 and 80. With those two picks, the Raiders continued to bolster the defense, adding an edge rusher in Buffalo’s Malcolm Koonce, and Virginia Tech safety/linebacker hybrid Divine Deablo.

Both players fill voids on this roster, as Mayock and Gruden certainly got the job done on Day 2. For all the noise with the Leatherwood pick ruining the first round, the Raiders got a lot better in rounds 2 and 3, and it will be interesting to see who they add to the mix on Saturday.
