Las Vegas Raiders: 3 under-the-radar players to keep an eye on in training camp

Tanner Muse

Like the wide receiver spot, the Raiders made several additions to the linebacking corps this offseason. They drafted Divine Deablo, signed Darron Lee, and brought back Javin White as depth pieces.

The starters are entrenched and are unlikely to be replaced this season, therefore, former third-round pick Tanner Muse is fighting for his roster spot.

Muse, a converted safety, was selected early in the 2020 draft to be a special teams ‘war daddy.’ However, it was noted that he was struggling tremendously in last year’s training camp and was described as “looking lost”. The Raiders chose to stash him on injured reserve with a pretty serious toe injury, however, Muse returns this year to a crowded linebacker room.

Muse offers a unique skill set. He is a big player who also ran a 4.41 40 yard dash at the combine. His size and speed make him very intriguing, but the fact that the Raiders drafted Deablo, who is exactly the same player, doesn’t fare well for Muse.

The hope is, after a season to learn the position and life in the NFL, Muse will be more prepared when he steps on the field. Right now, it looks like a wasted third-round pick, yet there is a chance for redemption.

If Muse uses his skillset and plays well on special teams, he could see the field on defense. Depending on how many linebackers the team decides to keep, Muse should have the leg up on Lee and White considering his draft status if they all perform evenly.
