Most disappointing Las Vegas Raiders so far in 2022
Trevon Moehrig
Key 2022 Stats
- 28.1 Yards Allowed Per Reception
- 2 Touchdowns Surrendered (Pass Coverage)
Coming off what was an impressive rookie year, Trevon Moehrig had some big expectations placed on him. So far, it’s been a rough sophomore campaign. In his defense, he did suffer a hip injury earlier this season, but his play has been lackluster all year. In three games played, he’s allowed a horrid 28.1 yards per reception in coverage (based on 11 targets this year).
Needless to say, he’s getting picked on. Covering Kelce on Monday Night Football was a complete mismatch out there.
Moehrig has received an underwhelming 44.6 coverage grade by Pro Football Focus along with a 52.3 grade in run defense. A rough start, to say the least. Perhaps he’s not 100 percent yet. To be fair, the Raiders’ secondary as a whole has been decimated by injuries this year.
Nevertheless, defensive coordinator, Patrick Graham needs to do a better job with Moehrig’s placement. At no point should he be on Kelce one-on-one. That’s a mismatch physically, and it begs to be exploited, which is what Patrick Mahomes did. Given what we saw last year, Moehrig’s potential hasn’t gone anywhere. There’s still a lot of football to play.
