Update on the Walker Robbery
Updated (see comments) Below is an Associated Press clip on the arrest of the guy who robbed Javon Walker. I wrote after the incident that I was more concerned with how this happened than with his injuries. I still feel the same because a cloud of controversy remains over the situation. “I was just back at my room and at about 5:30 in the morning, I got a knock at the door, I opened it and three guys with guns were there, they cracked me in the head a few times knocking me unconscious,” Walker said “They then robbed me of everything I had, my watch, money, [...]
Raiding Parks
The Oakland Raiders announced yesterday that they will continue to team up with the California State Parks Foundation to encourage the use of the states’ many parks and beaches. “State Parks and the Oakland Raiders are already connected through outdoor fitness,” said Ruth Coleman Director of California State Parks. “By continuing to work together to promote the state parks, we will reach a wider audience and educate Raider fans about the importance of recreation and exercise while promoting state parks use.” The Raiders and the State Parks passed out sunscreen, Junior Ranger hats, and welcome kits at one of their [...]
Going into Training Camp
Here’s a clip from a site called Gamblers Television.com. I’ve never heard of the site, but they did a good job of putting together a quick overview of JaMarcus Russell’s first season and what the offense will be working with going into training camp. Nothing spectacular, but a nice reminder after a lot of dead time between the end of mini-camps and the start of training camp. I wasn’t around to cover the Oakland Raiders’ mini-camps, but will be all over the upcoming training camp (July 25). Team USA
Staying on basketball for a little bit more, I wanted to take a look at the U.S. Olympic squad. Before I get into it, let me just say that it’s hard for me to handle my country losing at anything. Maybe it’s because I spent the first 9 years of my life in a real “Red White and Blue” part of Texas, and have grandfathers that fought on Destroyers in WWII, or maybe I’m just a sore loser. Either the case, if there’s one team I root for that I don’t accept losing from, it’s the United States Men’s Basketball team. I know [...]
NBA Draft Recap (Picks 1-14)
A little break from football to assess the NBA Draft (lottery picks 1-14). I was going to do the entire first round, but decided to end with my Golden State Warriors at pick 14. Here’s how I see it: Team 1st Round 1. Chicago Bulls – Derrick Rose- PG - Memphis: With only minutes before the pick, this selection had already been leaked to the media, so there was little surprise in the selection of the Chicago native. 2. Miami Heat - Michael Beasley - PF – Kansas State: I think the indecisiveness out of Miami was a smoke screen. There’s no way they could’ve taken anyone [...]
New Blogs
It’s been one thing after another for me since the end of the NFL Draft, but I finally have my life back. While I’ve been busy we’ve launched 3 new Fan-Sided Blogs; devoted to the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans. These blogs bring the FSB total to 30 individual sites, only 2 teams away from coverage of the entire league.
Walker Robbed
If you’ve not heard yet, Javon Walker was robbed and left unconscious on a Las Vegas street early Monday morning. Reports are that Walker is currently in fair condition in Las Vegas with an orbital fracture (broke the bone around his eye). ESPN has been reporting he has “significant injuries,” and although they are reporting that “a hospital spokesman said he had no immediate information about Walker’s condition”, local reporters are reporting only about the fracture. Vegas police say they have not made any arrests, nor does it appear that they have any suspects. On his injury; after consulting with [...]
Back in Black
Since the end of the NFL Draft several things have come up, limiting my time to blog: the flu (lost 5 weekdays), major reports due at school and work (continue to lose free time), family obligations/graduations 3,000 miles away (lost a week), and a change in Internet provider that should’ve taken 2 days, but ended up taking 10. Needless to say, the last 6 weeks or so have been hectic, and in between everything, I proposed to my girlfriend (soooo wasn’t planned, but came together perfectly), who obviously said yes. I’d be stupid to think that I haven’t lost free [...]
