Raiding Parks

The Oakland Raiders announced yesterday that they will continue to team up with the California State Parks Foundation to encourage the use of the states’ many parks and beaches.

“State Parks and the Oakland Raiders are already connected through outdoor fitness,” said Ruth Coleman Director of California State Parks.  “By continuing to work together to promote the state parks, we will reach a wider audience and educate Raider fans about the importance of recreation and exercise while promoting state parks use.”

The Raiders and the State Parks passed out sunscreen, Junior Ranger hats, and welcome kits at one of their games last year.  They will collaborate during the next 2 seasons in a similar fashion.

With hundreds of fires burning all over the state of California (in many State Parks), and thick layers of smoke filling the air, I think it’s an odd time to make this announcement.  I do believe that this collaboration is ultimately a good thing, it’s just the release comes at an eerie time.  As we are being told by health experts to stay indoors and to avoid the smoky air, the Raiders and the State parks want us to think about making more time to get outside.  Good idea, just bad timing.
