Justin Ellis and Keith McGill have signed their rookie contracts

Never fear Raider Nation, Reggie has a plan, and he is executing it well.  I speak of Oakland Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie of course.  Those that worried DT Justin Ellis, better known as Jelly Beans, wasn’t signed just yet can now breathe a sigh of relief.  The big DT out of Louisiana Tech has etched his future in stone for at least the next four years.

Along with Justin Ellis, CB Keith McGill has also signed his rookie contract.  This marks seven of the eight draft picks by the Oakland Raiders signed and sealed for the future.  McKenzie has had his plan in action all along, and he is executing the way he needs to.

Those that worried about the rookies being signed before Mandatory Mini-Camps and Training Camp can now settle in and enjoy the 2014 season to come.  The only one left to sign is 3rd round draft pick Gabe Jackson.  However, I’m sure he is next to sign as he is the only one left out of the eight 2014 Draft Class.

Have no fear Raider Nation, Gabe Jackson will be signed soon enough, and the Raiders will be smiling heading into Training Camp, as these rookies look to become the face of this great organization.  In truth, the 2014 draft was the beginning of a winning organization for the Raiders, unlike the last two or even ten years.  A new era has sailed into the port of Oakland, it is the Raiders time to become a lasting force to reckon with within the AFC.

Long gone are the days of draft holdouts in Oakland.  No drama here, just straight football to play.  Reggie is smart and he knows how to enter camp with all his players signed and sealed.  Let the media try to find some type of drama or hullabaloo to spread about our wonderful team.  This is Silver and Black country, and you don’t tread here unless you bleed Silver and Black.  I bleed it brothers and sisters, and this is a new future with an exciting outlook.  I am here for all of Raider Nation, and I will be there on the sidelines with you, Go Raiders!

I am happy. The season will look good. Go Raiders! !!

  • Bobby Malette

I love what McKenzie is doing with this team. If not for the HARDEST schedule in the NFL, I would say the Raiders would be a serious contender in this league. I still see the Raiders as a playoff team and I cannot wait to see what they will do this year. I bleed Silver & Black and my tattoo proves it. Go Raider Nation.

Same here, my tattoo proves it 2…..just win baby….

Interesting that the RM haters have been pretty silent since the draft. They were all over these blogs at the start of free agency, but started fading as free agency progressed. With that said, they are almost certainly just as true Raiders’ fans as those of us who believe RM is on the right path. We don’t need the “fans” who say they won’t support the team if certain players are traded/drafted or not traded/drafted, or if the coach and/or GM are not fired – but nobody is less of a fan for vocalizing disagreements about the any of those things or the strategies we are pursuing. Let’s face it, there is always the chance that the Raiders could have another miserable season and RM and DA are gone. A spirited debate is healthy, even when it occasionally gets ugly – but now is the time to unite. I feel we’ve been on the right path since RM came aboard – dumping bad contract & attitudes, bringing in the best vets he could with the money he had – and this year, he had cap room and draft picks. If we pressure their QBs on defense and create running lanes for our backfield on offense – two areas that have been significantly upgraded this offseason – we are going to surprise a lot of people.

Hell yeah Shane ! I’ve waited for this for a long, long time. I’m holding my head high that it’s FINALLY coming to fruition!!! Another solid draft next & look out NFL! 2014 silver & black back on track; 2015 return to EXCELLENCE!

  • 757Raiderfan

I always love reading your articles Shane. You always have an upbeat attitude and positive things to say about our beloved Raiders. Let’s go RAIDERS!!!

For the first time in years The Raiders moved quietly but strong through the Draft. Deliberate moves were made to choose Character and Heart over Hype and Reach.
The Media was hushed each time RM moved and selected and now almost all are signed.
I have every confidence that when this Team plays, they will play as a Team of Character and Purpose.
Be Afraid NFL opponents, for the Raiders are Coming Back At You This Year!
    Go Raiders!

I’ve said from the outset of the RM era that it would take 5 years to get the mess that Al left straightened out. RM has done it in 3 in regards to the salary cap problems and the resultant huge contracts for sub-par players issues. I think we’re probably still another year away from being championship contenders due to a little bit of a lack of quality depth, but could be proven wrong once training camp gets going, as there’s a good chance that some of the UDA’s will provide the needed depth. I believe we’ll be good enough to compete for the postseason, even with the supposedly tough schedule, and that starting next season, will be back where the Nation has always belonged, competing for the Lombardi year in and year out, playing tough, dominating football on both sides of the ball. THE SILVER AND BLACK IS BACK!!!

  • JoeSchmoo

Agree that RM has done a great slow and steady job. What most don’t articulate is the non-player work. A 21st century front office with an updated computer system, new scouting staff and procedures, Fixed up practice field and equipment. These are HUGE!. But I must say that the biggest impact is the quality of coaches. The first year they did great, then fired strength and condition and defensive backfield coaches who were under-performing. As far as players go, the only hiccup in my book was Jennings. Love all the other moves.

  • Shane Schilperoort

The Raiders will definitely surprise a lot of people this year.

  • Shane Schilperoort

The Raiders should be able to compete regardless of what the schedule is.

  • Shane Schilperoort

It may be a tough schedule, but you have to beat the best to be the best, and this will prove the Raiders worth in the NFL this year. The Raiders will be the most improved team in 2014. Oh, and, my tattoos prove it too.

  • Shane Schilperoort

    Fired up!!!!!

  • Shane Schilperoort

    Yes opponents, be very afraid!

  • Shane Schilperoort

Yes, I wish Jennings had been retained, for sure. Oh well, on and upward.

  • Shane Schilperoort

I’m fired up, let me tell you, I’m definitely fired up!

  • Shane Schilperoort

Yes indeed, I’m getting chills right now. Can’t wait!

  • Stephen Spicker

I love reading your articles. All the haters can go to hell and take the mainstream media with them. The Raiders are on the rise! Raider for LIFE……

  • Mark Braga

so who’s the draft that is yet to sign with the raiders that RM hasn’t signed yet? Anyone know?

  • Shane Schilperoort

Gabe Jackson (G), third round pick. I’m sure there’s just some small formalities.

  • Shane Schilperoort

    Raiders 4 Life!

  • Mark Braga

thanks, I was thinking Justin Ellis, do you thin he’ll get signed?

  • Mark Braga

    ok, thanks, Let’s wiin, Raiders!

  • Shane Schilperoort

It’s still very early, and there won’t be a problem getting him signed before any mandatory stuff. Probably just moving money around and getting a better feel for medical history and what not. Formalities…

  • Shane Schilperoort

Ellis is signed, Gabe Jackson will get signed, no problem there. Besides, he’s a 3rd round pick, not a 1st rounder. He has no reason to hold out for more money or anything. With the Rookie Cap, it’s just a formality to make sure the money is doled out correctly. Also, there’s evaluations on his health and weight, etc… Not that there’s a foreseeable problem, this is just semantics and financing. More than likely he’ll get signed this coming week.
