The 2014 NFL schedule is set to release in under an hour, but leaks are already coming out of New York reporting that the Jets will be the Oakland Raiders first opponents of the new NFL season as hosts to the new look Silver and Black in what is potentially a battle between veteran FA quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Michael Vick.
From NJ.com’s report
"The Jets will open their 2014 regular season against the Raiders at home, according to a league source who requested anonymity because the schedule has not been officially released. The time of the game, which will be held on Sept. 7, remains unclear, but seems likely to be 1 p.m.The NFL’s full regular-season schedule will be released at 8 p.m. Wednesday. But teams already know who they will play and where the games will be held."
The draw of the Jets on the road for the first game is not exactly a terrible one for the Raiders season opener, after all they have the league’s toughest schedule this season and could easily have been thrown into the wolves with a matchup against an AFC West or NFC West opponent. Oakland has well documented struggles playing on the East Coast, but with former King of New York Justin Tuck being one of the Raiders newest additions playing at MetLife Stadium may just be the perfect place to start a new era of Oakland football.
