Tight End

Schaub has been known to throw to his tight end a lot and the youngster (Carr) will likely need one as a security blanket. So a pass-catching tight end is what the Raiders need but they didn’t do much to address it this offseason. They were able to stand pat there because David Ausberry, a converted wide receiver that originally won the job last year, is back healthy.

Mychal Rivera came in and did a good job in his stead but isn’t the same kind of threat down the field Ausberry is. Head coach Dennis Allen sounds pretty happy to have him back after he missed the entire 2013 regular season with a shoulder injury. He told Raiders.com’s Eddie Paskal, “David Ausberry is a guy that we didn’t have at all last year and I think he can be a real receiving threat for us.”

The 6’4″ 258-pound Ausberry is along the lines of Fred Davis has he has 4.4 40-speed to be used down the field. The 2011 seventh-round pick was ready right away in the passing game but had to grow into the blocking part as the Raiders are mainly a running team. The injury he sustained last year was really untimely in that he just got to where he was comfortable with the blocking part of his game.

Here is another weapon that the NFL doesn’t know about that will be unleashed this year in the passing game.
