I remain on the Derek Carr bandwagon and want to see him start right away if he is ready like I think he is. But that doesn’t mean that Matt Schaub is a scrub just because he had one bad season last year. So after making a case for Carr in a previous article, it’s time to be fair and make a case for Schaub starting this year.
Before his bad year last year, he had some great years in the NFL, leading some top offenses with the Houston Texans. At one time, he was on the second tier of elite quarterbacks and no one forgets how to play quarterback overnight. He’s only 33, which isn’t old for a quarterback, so father time hasn’t taken it away from him just yet.
So that bad year he had last year had to be just a bad year and not the decline of a player that is aging. After all, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady are all older than Schaub is. There haven’t been any reports of Schaub having surgery to repair his throwing elbow or any other part of his arm so he must still have it in him.
Turn the page to see why Schaub can come back from last year.
