“Matt Schaub back to pass, throws deep down the sideline for Andre Johnson and it’s caught—to the ten, to the five, touchdown Texans!” Those were the good old days with the Houston Texans when Matt Schaub was a solid quarterback with a decent arm that had NFL defenses on notice. Now, while Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen and offensive coordinator Greg Olson sing his praises, it looks like into he’s no longer the same guy. Even though I want to see Carr get a chance, I made a case for Schaub, thinking that the reason why he struggled last year was that he played hurt. Even though that is the case, after seeing him in the preseason opener, I see why he threw all those pick-sixes. Schaub may just need a rest as he has thrown a lot of footballs but right now, it doesn’t look like there’s much left in his right arm as he looks like a shell of his former self. For a the “Greatest of all time,” Muhammad Ali, it was young stud Larry Holmes that made him realize the magic was gone. That time also came for Holmes later as a young Mike Tyson made him realize not only that he was done but he could get hurt. And most recently, it’s in the sport of golf where young dynamo Rory McIlroy is taking the sport of golf from an ailing, aging, Tiger Woods. Now, the Raiders have Schaub trying to hang on showing signs of no longer being the same last year and the this year first preseason game. The coaching staff is still selling him just like they’re sold Matt Flynn last year and once we got to see Flynn, he looked just like Schaub does now. And in that same game, rookie second-round pick Derek Carr looked like he could get the hang of playing quarterback in the NFL pretty quickly. Now, he needs a chance to finish Schaub.
