Charles Woodson has decided to end his Hall of Fame career in the place it all started with the Oakland Raiders, hopeful that he would be able to help guide the struggling franchise back to the promised land before hanging up his cleats for good. That hasn’t happened yet as after a 4-12 season the Raiders have now lost eight straight games, including the woeful 30-14 defeat on Sunday in their home opener to the Houston Texans in which the Raiders defense allowed touchdowns on the first two Texans drives on the way to the loss.
Woodson, who was excited for the home opener in Oakland after coming back to the Raiders this offseason, was naturally displeased with the effort. Calling it an embarrassment for a team that loaded up with proven veterans to come out and get blown away by the worst team in the NFL from last season, a team that the 4-12 Raiders beat on the road in 2013.
Woodson seems naturally letdown by the effort from a team that talked about being improved after adding veteran talent along with promising rookies over the offseason. Coming out flat on defense before the offense turned the ball over four times to make matters worse, Woodson speaks for the majority of Raiders fans in the embarrassing feeling after getting dominated by the Texans. Facing the Patriots next weekend on the East Coast in New England, things may not get better for the Raiders anytime soon. Something that is unfortunate for the veteran Woodson who wants so badly to be able to help the Raiders return to winning, with a short window to help accomplish that goal on the field it is natural that the former Heisman winner and Super Bowl champion is frustrated with the effort of the team postgame.
