Making the Most of What He Has

A lot of G.M.s missed out on Carr because they compared him to his brother but his story is more like Andrew Luck’s. Luck’s father Oliver (Luck) played in the NFL for a hot minute, wasn’t successful and made sure his son was ready. The difference is Carr didn’t go to a perennial contending team that had one horrible year because they lost their Hall of Fame quarterback.

Carr went to a team that hasn’t won anything in over a decade and sure doesn’t have a guy like Reggie Wayne to throw to. So Carr’s 588 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions and passer rating of 74.9 in his first three games isn’t indicative of how well he is playing. Not only is he the seventh most pressured quarterback in the NFL but his receivers not named James Jones can’t hold on to the ball.

Most rookie quarterbacks that go into situations like the Raiders’ situation stink the joint up until the team is built. But you can’t expect Carr to go out there and win when he doesn’t have anything around him to go out there and win with. Even Tom Brady, who with all his accolades and experience, isn’t doing so well because he doesn’t have much around him.
