Mid way through the first quarter Oakland looks to throw out of 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WRs) with a 3×1 look and Carr in shotgun. New England brings in Nickel personnel (3 DL, 3 LB, 5 DBs) in man-free coverage (single deep safety, man coverage underneath). New England runs a zone blitz with their Mike (middle linebacker) and Sam (strong side linebacker) rushing the QB while their DEs drop back to help in the short middle of the field. Carr reads blitz and man coverage (outside cornerbacks in press position, inside leverage) in the pre-snap read and knows he’ll have a good matchup with Streeter running the out route and looks to go there right away. Streeter does a great job fighting for outside position on his stem despite the nickelback being clearly lined up to his outside. Carr delivers a great pass away from the defender and Streeter makes the catch for the first down. Considering how much Carr struggled last week when throwing to his left this play was an example of solid growth from the young QB.
