A Strong Case For Jon Gruden Returning to Oakland Raiders

1 of 4

Like my Daddy used to say, “better not nobody” be surprised when Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen gets fired. And Every Raiders fan I know from the streets to the comment section wants former head coach Jon Gruden to return. It’s been that way since he’s been gone but it’s kinda like famous hip-hop artist Doctor Dre and the speculation on his release of the album “Detox.”

The slightest little speculation on it would pick up steam but it never happened so Dre fans are over it—for now. Gruden fans got over it too but with Allen now fired, it’s coming back so I’ll go first on it because I never did get over it. An interview with former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon on Bay Area radio station 95.7 The Game in April planted the seed in my head.

Gannon said, “Trust me, I’ve had conversations with him, we seem to have them every year, he talks about how he still has the desire to coach and how competitive he is. You know, what’s interesting is he still loves the Raiders. I know that to be true because he told me so. He loves the Bay Area, he loves the Oakland Raiders. I think the world of Reggie and Dennis , I want to see them turn this thing around but who knows? Stranger things have happened.”

And here the Raiders are, a quarter of the way through another bad football season, 0-4 with 10-straight losses going back to last year. The bye-week is here, Allen will be been fired and offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Greg Olson, a Gruden disciple are rumored to be the interim head coach. And there’s a strong enough case for Gruden to return to the Raiders to the point where I can see this happening at least by 2015.
