Khalil Mack Slips Up
Khalil Mack and been a top 5 NFL outside linebacker for most of the season. This wasn’t the case against Denver, however. There’s still no reason to worry long term about Mack (he’s a beast), but he still has some room to grow – which is actually really exciting. Usually very good in containment, Mack let a few plays get outside of him in the contest with Denver.

Oakland runs their big nickel package (3 DLs, 3 LBs, 2 CBs, 3 Safeties – *TJ Carrie was out due to injury so couldn’t come in as nickelback) against Denver’s 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WRs) running an inside zone run to the right. LB Khalil Mack lines up in a three point stance and pushes toward the run as soon as the line slides for their blocks. He fails to drive into the backfield and hold the trailing edge for the cutback, and thus is out of position to make the tackle when RB Ronnie Hillman runs back across the formation. Both him and S Charles Woodson miss their tackles allowing Hillman to get 6 yards on 1st down before being tackled.
