Safeties: Projected Starters – Charles Woodson and Tyvon Branch

With the return of the GOAT, Charles Woodson, the Raiders have their free safety locked up.  Are there upgrades out there to him?  Yes.  Is there an upgrade needed? Not right now. If Tyvon Branch is able to stay healthy, the strong safety position is looking pretty good as well. That “if” is starting to get bigger and bigger every year.  It might be a good idea to pad the position with a little depth in the offseason.

Free Agency has a few intriguing options. If New England lets Devin McCourty get to free agency, he would be an incredible addition, though I doubt he hits the open market. A more likely option would be Denver’s Rahim Moore.  He’s a young, consistent mid level player who would add quality depth to the Safety position and not break the bank.

Jaquiski Tartt out of Samford should be on the Raider’s radar if they are looking to add depth to the Safety position this year.  This kid could be the next Cam Chancellor. He will probably need a year as a backup to properly adjust to the NFL, but he could develop nicely into either a Free Safety, or Strong Safety depending on where he’s needed.
