Quarterback: Current Starter – Derek Carr

Derek Carr is the quarterback of the Oakland Raiders. In my talk with him a few weeks ago he expressed how much he would love to play his entire career as a Raider. In recent interviews, newly hired head coach Jack Del Rio has had nothing but praise for his new young quarterback, and offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave has already begun finding ways to build an offensive scheme around young Derek, to maximize his potential and skill set.

Backup to Carr seems set as well as long as former starter Matt McGloin is willing to remain with the team as the Raiders should cut Matt Schaub’s salary. Schaub’s departure does open up a roster spot for another backup arm, but in terms of improving at the top of the position the Raiders won’t be doing so as they have the longterm starter in Carr.

With no need for an upgrade, its very easy to overlook if there is even an upgrade available. When Sanchez and Hoyer are the best options in free agency this year, and only really two quarterback options coming up in the draft; its quite obvious that Derek Carr is the best option available for the Raiders not only in 2015, but in the future for the franchise who may just finally have consistency at the position.
