As They Were

The Raiders had no pass-rush as were tied for No. 30 in the NFL with a paltry 22 sacks last year. And like I said before, defensive coordinator Jason Tarver didn’t use Mack to rush the passer much. But I can’t put that on Tarver because if you blitz one linebacker, you need two that can cover.

And the two starting linebackers that can cover were Sio Moore and Mack as Miles Burris can’t cover Jack. No wonder why Burris was the main one to blitz when the Raiders did blitz last year. Veteran DE LaMarr Woodley was brought in to rush the passer but only managed 5 tackles in six games with no sacks.

Defensive tackle Antonio Smith was another part of the veteran crew brought in but he had only three sacks himself. Then we have the great Justin Tuck, who wasn’t the same guy he was in 2013 but improved as the season went on. He had five sacks and NT Justin Ellis had none, which isn’t surprising for his position.
