The Running Game
Many wanted the Raiders to draft a running back but there was no need as the Raiders have backs. Roy Helu was a good signing as was Trent Richardson to give the Raiders depth at the position. The feature back is going to be Latavius Murray, who opened some eyes and shut some mouths last year with his breakout performances in the second half of the season.
Del Rio and offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave like to play smash-mouth football and run it a lot. And the 6’3″, 230-pounder can do that as he injured Buffalo Bills nose tackle Marcel Darius when he tried to tackle him. Then Murray has 4.3 40 yard dash wheels to take to the house from anywhere as he showed in Week 11 going 90 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs.
For those the think he got lucky, the way he did it is an indication that he’s a skilled ball carrier. Beyond his speed and power, he has great vision, patience and hits designed gaps before making cuts. The Raiders did win a game last year until he emerged and were 3-2 when he started.
