Quarterback
Starter: Derek Carr
No. 2: Matt McGloin
No. 3: Christian Ponder
Although quarterback Derek Carr noticeably struggled in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, the second-year man out of Fresno State is still undoubtedly the starting quarterback for this football team.
The former second-round pick threw for 3,270 yards and 21 touchdowns for the Oakland Raiders in 16 games in 2014. Carr still has a lot of room to improve as a starter in this league, but newly added weapons like Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree should create for an exciting year for this young quarterback in 2015.
As for the man who will ultimately sit behind Carr at the No. 2 quarterback spot, former Undrafted Free Agent Matt McGloin has done more than enough this offseason to secure the job. The former Penn State quarterback has completed 26 of his 33 attempts for 238 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in three games this preseason.
On the other hand, free agent addition Christian Ponder has completed just 15 of his 24 pass attempts for 146 yards and one touchdown with an interception. Ponder also has been sacked a total of three times this preseason, while McGloin has yet to be tackled in the backfield.
