Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Game:  I have to go with Gabe Jackson on this. When an offensive lineman is one of the top five graded players in the league for the week from PFF, he has had a truly special game. Jackson had a solid campaign last year, and many believe he’s not far off from being a Pro Bowl caliber talent. Games like this show there is substance surrounding the hype with this young man.

Defensive Player of the Game: I’m going with Neiko Thorpe. He was literally the only person on the team who was actually playing in coverage. When throwing at Thorpe, Joe Flacco had a QB Rating of 47.5. I’m not going to say that Thorpe played lights out, but he was at least making plays on the ball. The team, as a whole were able to defend four passes, Thorpe was responsible for two of those. He put out a great effort against one of the leagues better QBs, and he held his own.

Play of the Game: Has to be Derek Carr to Seth Roberts TD to seal the victory. It doesn’t get much better than that story. The second year QB needing to show a fan base, and the football world as a whole that he is as good as people hoped he would be, and a no name receiver who worked his way up the ranks in the preseason to have his first regular season reception be a game winning TD. It’s a classic script that always makes for great football, capped off with the fact that it is a play that could lead to a hot start to the season for the Raiders going forward.
