The Oakland Raiders have decided to bring back safety Nate Allen two days after releasing the once highly paid defensive back.
Just days after cutting Nate Allen to save cap space, the Oakland Raiders have come to terms to keep the veteran safety on the roster. Presumably convincing the safety to take a discounted price to remain with the Raiders going forward after axing his four-year, $23 million deal after just one season.
Allen was cut earlier in the week before being brought back on Thursday afternoon as the Raiders announced that the former Philadelphia Eagles safety will be staying in Oakland after most thought his time in the Bay Area was over. Instead, the Raiders voided his contract and convinced Allen to remain with the team on a lesser deal to keep one of their only reliable options at the safety position.
Raiders have re-signed Nate Allen a few days after releasing him. Avoids full guarantee of last deal...

#Raiders re-sign S Nate Allen, likely to a smaller contract than he had before. Not a bad move, team needs all secondary depth it can get

The move to convince Allen to stay despite not guaranteeing his massive deal to come to Oakland signed in the 2015 offseason is a shrewd tactic from general manager Reggie McKenzie. Allen has the experience and talent to be useful, but at his previous his price the Raiders couldn’t justify keeping him around. Now, the Raiders get to keep Allen’s presence on the roster and save some money down the road in what is a massive win for the team’s front office.
