Dream signing: Danny Trevathan, LB, Denver Broncos
Realistic signing: Tahir Whitehead, LB, Detroit Lions
Trevathan is a 3-down inside linebacker who is both solid against the run and in pass coverage. He’d be a perfect fit in Oakland and is just 25 years old, but many teams will be after him.
Alternatively, Whitehead is a really impressive young player who can play both the inside and outside linebacker spots. He excels against the run, he’s only 25 and is definitely a player Reggie McKenzie would like.
One more option is Jerrell Freeman, a veteran linebacker (he’ll be 30 in May) who could bring what many hoped Curtis Lofton would bring to the table last season. He is coming off a season in which PFF graded him in top ten amongst LB’s, and would provide a solid, veteran presence to the linebacker core.
