Derek Carr expected to earn over $20 million per year

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is expected to earn over $20 million per season after his rookie contract according to a former NFL agent.
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is enjoying the success of being one of the NFL’s brightest young passers but has yet to cash in on his production as he is currently on his rookie contract as a second round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Something that will change after the 2o16 season as the Raiders will be put to the negotiating table to give Carr a hefty pay raise at the end of his rookie deal.
One NFL insider has set a price on Carr’s value to the Raiders, and it would be over $20 million as the production of Carr would warrant a deal greater than the $18 million that Brock Osweiler was handed by the Houston Texans. A deal that will set the benchmark for future contracts when young passers finish their rookie deals, particularly with Carr and Teddy Bridgewater who will be the next two young passers to get paid by their respective teams.
RaidersBeat pointed to a recent radio spot on 95.7 The Game where the former agent and CBS contributor Joel Corry set Carr’s value at more than $20 million per season when he negotiates his contract with the Raiders.
“It’s always cheaper to re-sign a great player sooner rather than later,” Corry said during his radio interview when asked about Carr. Corry also adding that a deal with Carr would likely be addressed between the 2017 NFL Draft and the beginning of the 2017 season. Something that the always cap conscious Raiders are prepared to do with both Carr as well as their fifth overall pick from 2014 in Khalil Mack.
Both contracts will be expensive, but absolutely necessary deals for the Raiders who will gladly be paying the price for two homegrown franchise players when it is time to give a contract to Carr. One of the best young players in the league, Carr will be able to name his price and the Raiders will likely give it to him as there is little to no chance that the franchise will let their biggest young star in decades get remotely close to testing the open market.
