William Jackson: Prospect Breakdown (with GIFs)
Next up in Just Blog Baby’s coverage of the 2016 NFL Draft is a breakdown of Houston cornerback William Jackson III.
The Oakland Raiders drafting a cornerback from the University of Houston; deja vu, or is Jackson good enough to break the dreaded University of Houston/Raiders CB curse created by D.J. Hayden and Stanford Routt?
Let’s get into some film.
My favorite play on film from Jackson. Impressive display of athleticism, outstanding effort to go all out for the ball, great ball skills to locate and track the football, and then to get the deflection. Big-time play.
Jackson allows too much space downfield, resulting in an easy completion. Then he gets his ankles broken on the tackle attempt.
Slant routes are difficult to cover, but Jackson’s athleticism allows him to quickly jump the route. He perfectly times a big hit to force the incompletion.
He doesn’t use his hands to jam very often and when he does, it’s not very effective.
Jackson actively looks to dish out punishment, and lays a big hit on Dalvin Cook on this play.
