Round 1

Chase Ruttig: Darian Thompson, S, Boise State

Why I Like This Pick: Thompson will the popular second round target for the Raiders until he either falls to them or is picked in the late first or early second. A thumper from Boise State that has the physical tools, Thompson is going to be the backup plan for teams once Karl Joseph is on the board, but would be no consolation prize as he has his own talents that make him an extremely exciting safety prospect.

Other Names To Watch: Devontae Booker, RB, Utah; Su’a Cravens, LB

Pete Camarillo: Darian Thompson, Safety, Boise St.

Why I Like this pick: Thompson registered 11 interceptions over his last two seasons in Boise. That is the kind of proven playmaking ability the Raiders need in the secondary. Reggie McKenzie likes highly productive players like Thompson. Some people question his speed because of a post 4.7 40-yard-dash time. However, the Raiders defense is talented enough to hide those inefficiencies.Thompson competes with Nate Allen and Reggie Nelson for playing time, immediately.
