5th WR Spot

Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree, Seth Roberts and Andre Holmes are all but locked in as the first four wide receivers. What is up for grabs is the 5th spot, where there are a number of different players who could be called upon.

Rod Streater, Brice Butler and Andre Debose are all gone, so the 5th WR spot is going to be a fresh face. Nearly all of the available options are UDFA’s, so unless the team signs someone else, it seems like we’ll see a third UDFA WR on the roster (Roberts and Holmes went undrafted).

In no order — Johnny Holton, Max McCaffrey, K.J. Brent, Jaydon Mickens, Marvin Hall, Joe Hansley and Nathan Palmer are the options. Palmer is the only one that isn’t a rookie. So unless a new player is added to the mix at some point, it’ll be one of these guys.

McCaffrey is getting the most love on #RaidersTwitter, but I doubt that would be the case if he had a different last name. Hansley has performed well enough to earn a small feature on the Raiders official website, but lack of size is a big concern.

My money is on either of the University of Washington WR’s — Mickens or Hall. They’re both playmakers with the ball in their hands, and that type of big-time play potential for the 5th WR is intriguing. Hall also was a return man for the Huskies, and Mickens seems to have a skill set to contribute in that area as well.
