Greg Townsend Jr., Edge-rusher USC
With just one considerably productive season under his belt during his time at USC, Greg Townsend Jr. is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps (former Raiders pass rusher Greg Townsend Sr.) with Oakland.
After seeing snaps in 10 games as a freshman in 2010, Townsend lost his sophomore season due to injuries both to his knee and ankle. He struggled to rebound positively as a junior with just nine tackles and two sacks in 2014, but Townsend shined during his final year at USC with 44 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and two sacks, per CFBStats.com.
At 6’2”, 258 pounds, Townsend possesses the tools necessary to make a name for himself at the next level, but he still has a lot to prove due to the amount of injuries he has dealt with during his collegiate career. With a number of edge-rushers ahead of him on the depth chart, Townsend will have to make several standout plays during training camp and the preseason if Oakland is going to overlook his injuries and stick him on the roster.
