A look at who could and should become the Oakland Raiders defensive captain.
On offense, picking out a captain is usually pretty easy. For the Raiders, it should be their third-year starting quarterback off of a Pro Bowl season in Derek Carr.
Even if the Raiders wanted to give it to someone besides Derek Carr, Oakland could not give it to anyone other than him or maybe center Rodney Hudson. The center is also a key leadership position because they typically make the offensive line calls.
Picking a captain on defense gets a little trickier as filling Charles Woodson’s cleats as the next defensive captain will not be easy and there is no clear name that stands out as an obvious captain. Names like Khalil Mack, Bruce Irvin, Sean Smith and more all will have their own cases as to why they should be the captain which will make head coach Jack Del Rio’s task in naming a defensive captain extremely difficult.
Here are five candidates for the defensive captain spot ranked in order.
