18. Malcolm Smith

A former Super Bowl MVP, Malcolm Smith came to Oakland last offseason to reunite with his linebackers coach in Seattle as the Raiders landed one of the Seahawks top linebackers after hiring Ken Norton Jr. as their defensive coordinator.

With Smith getting an increased role in Oakland, the former Super Bowl hero showed that he can do even more than what he did with the Seahawks. Smith quickly becoming the Raiders best linebacker in his first season with the team.

Heading into his second season with the Raiders, it will be interesting to see if another year with the coaching staff will be the catalyst for breakout seasons for the Oakland defense. If the Raiders are going to contend for a Super Bowl, another step forward from Smith will be needed as the former Super Bowl MVP’s leadership is crucial for a young Oakland team being able to make the step towards becoming a contender.
