16. David Amerson

A waiver wire steal, former second-round pick David Amerson became one of the best cornerbacks in the AFC West after coming to the Raiders from Washington early last season. Becoming the top cornerback on the depth chart and earning a massive new contract extension before training camp.

Amerson was one of the best cornerbacks in the league last season after coming to Oakland per Pro Football Focus, a change of scenery to a better fit with the Raiders coaching staff and a wake-up call after being cut by Washington leading to a career turnaround for Amerson. Reggie McKenzie making perhaps his best waiver wire steal as a general manager in claiming the talented Amerson off of waivers.

Amerson is projected to be the second starter at cornerback this season behind former Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith, but after getting paid before camp the pressure will still be on Amerson to repeat his breakout season. The Raiders have put a lot of faith in Amerson being able to continue to play at a high level, which makes his ability to find consistency after a breakout 2015 crucial to the team’s success.
