The CB’s: Sean Smith, David Amerson, T.J. Carrie, D.J. Hayden, Neiko Thorpe, Dexter McDonald, Tramain Jacobs, Dewey McDonald, Chris Edwards, Kenneth Durden, Antonio Hamilton.
The Safeties: Karl Joseph, Reggie Nelson, Nate Allen, Keith McGill, Chris Hackett, Jimmy Hall, Brynden Trawick.
Trawick is officially listed as a safety, but like Bates and Toomer, Trawick is considered a core special teams player.
First Cut: C. Edwards, Durden, Hall, Jacobs.
The top six cornerbacks are mostly set, so don’t expect to be surprised here. These four are a step below the others.
Second Cut: Hamilton, Hackett, McGill, Dewey McDonald.
Hamilton sticks around for a bit thanks to his return ability. Hackett is talented, has NFL experience, and could challenge for a roster spot.
McGill is transitioning to safety, but the transition has returned mixed results.
CB’s that make the team: Smith, Amerson, Carrie, Hayden, Thorpe, Dexter McDonald.
No surprises. The top six cornerbacks are pretty safe.
Safeties that make the team: Joseph, Nelson, Allen, Trawick.
The fourth safety spot is up for grabs, as it could be either McGill, McDonald, or Trawick. Dewey had the edge in camp, but a rough preseason game changes that.
McGill hasn’t been all that impressive either, so the tiebreaker will be special teams contribution, which goes to Trawick.
