Will UDFA WR will grab hold of the fifth WR spot?
Johnny Holton impressed as a kick returner and a special teams gunner, but he failed to log a catch on two targets. Jaydon Mickens looked electric on his punt return, but he didn’t get any offensive snaps.
Holton:
Mickens:
A handful of other UDFA wide receivers recorded a catch or two, but there wasn’t any notable performances on offense.
With the fifth wide receiver spot up for grabs, who steps up?
Holton seems to be the favorite, but the door is wide open for someone to come through and perform. Similarly to Atkinson with the RB spot, if a player can force the team’s hand by playing well, then that’s a good problem to have.
It’ll be interesting to see how the wide receiver rotations change, if at all. If anything, getting Holton, Mickens and K.J. Brent more reps on offense (the three favorites for the job) would be nice to see.
