Edwards Jr. went down with a hip injury early in the first game. It didn’t look too severe, but it did look serious enough to have some concern.

Any concerns were legitimized when word was released that Edwards Jr. would be out four to six weeks with a hip injury.

Fortunately, if that timeframe is accurate, he’ll miss one or two regular season games at most. Hopefully none if he can recover quickly, but there is no need to rush him.

This is not the news Raiders fans want to hear with Edwards, as the entire offseason was spent worrying about his neck. But the reality is that Edwards will be out at least a month, and someone has to step up in his absence.

If the Raiders use a 5-2 look — where Mack and Irvin stand on opposite edges, with Edwards Jr., Ellis/Dan and Ward between them — who will that player be?

Darius Latham played very well in the opener, so he’s an intriguing option. As is Townsend Jr., who also applied pressure a couple of times in the first game.

But the Raiders have a plethora of options available — Cowser, Orr, McGee, just to name a few others.

Let’s see who steps up to the plate.
