Reggie McKenzie has proven himself to be a salary cap wizard. He dug the Raiders out of cap hell and has built a talented team, all while keeping contracts team-friendly.

Part of that is not taking on dead money if it’s avoidable. In some cases though, it’s simply not. Here is a look at the dead money and the cap savings for the Raiders if these are the players that are released.

Note: These figures are from Over The Cap.

George Atkinson III: $0 dead money, $450K savings.

Taiwan Jones: $0 dead money, $1.15M savings.

Joe Hansley: $0 dead money, $450K savings.

Max McCaffrey: $0 dead money, $450K savings.

K.J. Brent: $0 dead money, $450K savings.

Marvin Hall: $0 dead money, $450K savings.

Terran Vaughn: Unknown, but presumably the same as the other UDFA’s.

John Lotulelei: $0 dead money, $600K savings.

Daren Bates: $0 dead money, $850K savings.

Kyrie Wilson: $0 dead money, $450K savings.

Jimmy Hall: $13,334 dead money, $443,332 savings.

Tramain Jacobs: $0 dead money, $600K savings.

Chris Hackett: $0 dead money, $450K savings.

Dewey McDonald: $0 dead money, $600K savings.

Andrew East: $0 dead money, $450K savings.

Giorgio Tavecchio: $0 dead money, $450K savings.

That’s only $18,334 in dead money, with Jimmy Hall and Lenny Jones being the only cuts leading to a penalty.

The savings isn’t exact because these contracts aren’t guaranteed, but everything in that column amounts to $18.08M.
