The fourth tier is players on the fringe — it would not be a surprise if any of these players are let go.

  • George Atkinson III
  • Daren Bates
  • K.J. Brent
  • James Cowser
  • Drew Iddings
  • Branden Jackson
  • Taiwan Jones
  • Denver Kirkland
  • Dewey McDonald
  • Jaydon Mickens
  • Jalen Richard
  • Brynden Trawick

The three running backs battling for the third spot are all included here. GA3 and Richard have impressed, while Taiwan is a mainstay. It’s a close race at this point, so all three are considered to be on the fringe.

Brent and Mickens don’t seem likely to make the roster, as Holton is the favorite for the fifth wide receiver spot, but each is good enough to not be ruled out completely.

Cowser, Iddings and Jackson are all in the same boat. Cowser has considered a favorite of the UDFA’s to make the roster, and that may still be the case, but things have not gone in his favor the last two preseason games.

Iddings and Jackson have played just as well as Cowser, if not better. So if the team wants extra defensive line depth, either could be looked at.

Bates was signed in the offseason as a special teams stud, but Toomer plays the same position and role, and will be tough to beat out.
