Game Details: Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs
By Robert Ortiz
Everything to know for the Oakland Raiders Week 6 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
With the Raiders squeaking out a win against the San Diego Chargers last week 34-31, Oakland is a surprising 4-1 and flying high as they roll into Sunday’s game against the hated Kansas City Chiefs.
A longstanding rivalry dating back to the AFL days, few fans have more hate for teams that aren’t the Chiefs or Broncos.
Led by the ultra-efficient Alex Smith, Kansas City is a resilient team coming off a bye week, giving them extra time to prepare for our potent offense.
On top of having a steady veteran presence at quarterback, the Chiefs have a three-headed monster at running back with Jamaal Charles, Spencer Ware, and Charcandrick West, alongside a very potent receiving duo in Jeremy Maclin and tight end Travis Kelce.
Sunday marks the 115 all-time meeting between the Raiders and the Chiefs, a history stretching back to the inaugural meeting in 1960 — a 34-16 Oakland loss. Kansas City is 60-50-2 against Oakland over the course of the series, and look to extend a three-game winning streak.

Things To Know:
- Can the Raiders shut down Travis Kelce?
While the Chiefs have an explosive wide receiver in Jeremy Maclin, the player that is more worrisome would be Pro-Bowl tight end Travis Kelce. a 6’6″ 265-pound athletic freak known as “Baby Gronk”, Oakland needs to shut him down in order to have a chance against this explosive and opportunistic Kansas City offense.
With the Raiders woes at linebacker, will the Raiders roll down the 5’10” Karl Joseph in coverage over Kelce? Does new linebacker signee get his shot at the Pro-Bowler? Definitely a storyline to follow.
- Can the Raiders take advantage of an underwhelming secondary?
From the brilliant @SullyFootball, a well known Chiefs writer who never fails to poke at the Oakland fanbase, I was given this assessment of the Chiefs secondary:
While many see the stats Marcus Peters put up last year and expect the Chiefs secondary to be a dogfight from the start, outside of Peters this secondary has been extremely underwhelming.
Add in an injured Justin Houston and a declining Tamba Hali, combined with a revolving door of blown coverages opposite the All-Pro Marcus Peters, and you can expect Oakland to do all they can to attack weaknesses all across the secondary if the OL manages to give Carr the time to throw.
- Oakland MUST capitalize
Facing a quietly elite team, Oakland is going to be up against a team that could very easily jump on top of them 21-0 in a heartbeat. if Oakland wants to stay in this game and cement themselves in the playoff conversation, they MUST capitalize on turnovers and defensive stops.
Musgrave has been an underwhelming play-caller for most of the season, and one can only hope he calls a fantastic game this week. Derek Carr will continue to be clutch, but Oakland has to fix its first half scoring woes if they want any hope of winning this game.
