Potential Cap Casualties For The Oakland Raiders
Aldon Smith
$2.75M in savings if released, no dead money.
For what it’s worth, Over The Cap lists the potential savings at $5.75 million, with the difference being they include per game bonuses and escalators in Aldon’s contract. Spotrac is just including the base salary plus workout/roster bonuses.
Whether the savings is $5.75 million or $2.75 million, what matters is that there is no dead money. So whatever the savings may be, McKenzie doesn’t have to eat any money if the decide to end this experiment.
Prior to this latest incident, it was a certainty that the Raiders would hang onto Aldon. They’ve waited this long for his return, so why give up on him?
But this domestic incident could be the last straw, and it wouldn’t at all be a surprise. Especially if more details come out that paint a negative picture.
We’ve recently had two different writers lay out cases to both keep Aldon, and to get rid of him.
Here is Gagan’s take on why the Raiders should end the Aldon experiment.
Here is why Ryne thinks Aldon deserves a 7th chance.
Next: Eric Berry Would Be Welcomed In Oakland
My prediction is that the Raiders see this thing through, and keep Aldon around. Assuming the NFL reinstates him in March.
Prediction: Aldon stays.
