Oakland Raiders: Top 5 Free Agent Running Backs
By Gagan Aujla
4. Mike Gillislee
Raiders fans should be familiar with Mike Gillislee. In Week 13, Gillislee had 8 carries for 49 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Silver and Black.
Along with being an up and coming player, Gillislee has the potential to be a running back that could become a bell-cow. Along with having that capability, Gillislee offers a more physical running style, which would be refreshing for Raiders fans to watch.
Gillislee has been a capable backup for the majority of this career. With that said, he is only 26 years old and has fresher legs than most backs. Gillislee would be someone who could put in some serious work if he were to be able to run behind an offensive line of Oakland’s caliber.
3. LeGarrette Blount
LeGarrette Blount is someone who would be an intriguing addition. Blount had a solid season in New England, rushing for 1,161 yards and a league leading 18 touchdowns.
To achieve those numbers, Blount carried the ball 299 times in the regular season and an additional 35 times in the postseason. This proves that Blount has the durability of being a bell-cow running back, and would provide a power back presence that the Raiders could use.
It would also help Blount to have players like Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington backing him up. Richard and Washington bring a change-of-pace mentality to the run game, which could end up complementing Blount well.
The one thing that could concern some would be that Blount just turned 30. As we all know, the shelf life on running backs does not last long. If the Raiders used Blount as a stop-gap player and signed him to a one-year deal, you could expect to get your money’s worth out of him, with minimal risk.
